CHRISTCHURCH, VA —  3 December 2024

Christchurch School Director of Athletics and Co-Curriculars John Dehm announces that Christchurch will mark its return to 11-man football in fall 2025, after a highly successful two-year run of fielding eight-man football teams.

Christchurch is enjoying a growing enrollment, with this year’s 9th grade class the biggest in recent history. This positive growth and momentum at the school, coupled with the increased participation of multi-sport athletes, makes the return to traditional 11-man football possible.

Joel Jorgensen will continue to serve as head coach of the program. Jorgensen came in as Head Coach for the eight-man program two years ago, winning the Virginia Independent Schools Football League (VISFL) Eight-Man State Championship in his first year. The team returned to the playoffs again this year. Before joining Christchurch, Jorgensen was an assistant coach at Johns Hopkins University and then at his alma mater, McDonogh School in Owings Mills, MD. He has a .768 winning percentage.

In addition, VISAA Hall of Fame Coach Ed Homer will be returning to the squad to serve as offensive line coach for the Seahorses. Combined, the expanded staff will have over fifty years of football coaching experience.
