A federal appeals court threw out most of the case that put a former Blacksburg doctor in prison, vacating his 56 convictions of distributing prescription drugs without a legitimate medical purpose in an opinion Thursday.
The 4th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals ruled that improper instructions were given to a jury that found Frank Craig Purpera Jr. guilty in 2020.
