AVirginia Department of Corrections officer in training last week was arrested after she tried to smuggle a cellphone hidden inside a hair scrunchie into Sussex I State Prison in Sussex County, officials said Monday.
VADOC officials said Kanasia Taylor was arrested by Virginia State Police at around 12:15 a.m. on March 27 as she was undergoing a search at the front entry of the prison. Taylor placed a scrunchie onto a desk beside a body scanner, where a VADOC corrections officer who investigated the scrunchie located a cell phone and charger concealed inside, according to officials.
