Leslie Mehta, the former legal director of the ACLU of Virginia, has won the Democratic nomination in the 1st Congressional District and will take on longtime Rep. Rob Wittman in the fall.
Jones was backed by former Gov. Ralph Northam. Mehta had the support of Rep. Abigail Spanberger, D-7th, as well as a deep-pocketed Democratic couple, Charlottesville hedge fund executive Michael Bills and his wife, Sonija Smith.
