FREDERICKSBURG Overnight travelers on Route 30/33 can expect brief delays crossing the Eltham Bridge next week.

All Route 30/33 traffic will be stopped for a minimum of four 15-minute intervals between 9 p.m. Monday, Dec. 16, and 5 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 17. Traffic will be cleared between each full traffic stop. If work cannot be completed on Dec. 16-17, the intermittent traffic stops will be rescheduled to occur between 9 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 17, and 5 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 18.

The Virginia Department of Transportation continues work to install a new gutter system on the movable portion of the bridge. Full traffic stops are needed as work progresses on this maintenance project. Crews are sequencing three separate projects with a total cost of $5.6 million to maintain the condition of the movable bridge and travel surface.

The Eltham Bridge crosses the Pamunkey River and connects the Town of West Point and New Kent County. It carries an average of 21,000 vehicles a day.
