FREDERICKSBURG – Travelers who cross the Robert O. Norris, Jr., Bridge and the Downing Bridge, both spanning the Rappahannock River, will encounter brief overnight delays next week for scheduled bridge washing maintenance.
Bridge washing will be underway between 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. Traffic on both bridges will be reduced to a single lane in the work zone.
Automatic flagging assistance devices, operated by certified flagging crews, will direct one-way, alternating traffic through the work zone. Crews will alternate lanes as they progress across the structure.
Work has been scheduled for the following dates:
Route 3, between Lancaster and Middlesex County
Sunday, Sept. 21-Monday, Sept. 22
Route 360, between Richmond County and the Town of Tappahannock
Monday, Sept. 22-Tuesday, Sept. 23
In the event a backup date is needed, bridge washing will be rescheduled to occur overnight on Tuesday, Sept. 23-Wednesday, Sept. 24.
Message boards will be posted at both bridge approaches to alert travelers to the work zones.
Updates will be available on 511.vdot.virginia.gov. Travelers can also download the free mobile 511Virginia app, or call 511 from any phone in Virginia.
