FREDERICKSBURG – Travelers who cross the Norris Bridge and the Downing Bridge, both spanning the Rappahannock River, should expect overnight delays with bridge washing planned for this week.
Starting tonight, March 18, crews will be on Route 3 at the Norris Bridge, which connects Lancaster and Middlesex counties. Tomorrow night, March 19, crews will wash the Downing Bridge, which is Route 360, connecting the Town of Tappahannock and Richmond County.
Bridge washing will occur from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. each night.
The mobile operation will stop one lane of traffic up to a maximum of 10 minutes at a time to wash portions of the bridge deck while the other lane remains open. Crews will alternate lanes as they progress across the structure.
Message boards will be posted at both bridge approaches to alert travelers to the work zones.
Updates will be available on 511.vdot.virginia.gov. Travelers can also download the free mobile 511Virginia app, or call 511 from any phone in Virginia.
