The federal government is cutting $11 billion in COVID-19-related funding to state health departments, which will affect the number of employees working at the Virginia Department of Health.
It is unclear how many jobs it will affect in Virginia. The state health department, which employs more than 3,000 people and operates more than 100 local health departments, is working to determine the impact of these changes, said Maria Reppas, a spokesperson for the department.
