Stratford, Virginia (January 9, 2026) – Stratford Hall Historic Preserve is commemorating the 250th anniversary of Richard Henry Lee’s Resolution for Independence on Saturday, June 6 and Sunday, June 7, 2026 with fireworks, living history interpreters and demonstrations, and more. Virginia Resolved is Stratford Hall’s newest signature event celebrating the nation’s independence where it began in Virginia’s Northern Neck with a staple summer weekend. In addition to a dazzling fireworks display and patriotic program on Saturday evening, the living history program on Sunday will include a Citizenship Ceremony, historic demonstrations, cavalry drills with the 1st and 4th Continental Light Dragoons, Lee family interpreters, community partner booths, food, music, and family fun.
Stratford Hall encourages all visitors planning to attend the event to subscribe to their email newsletter and visit the Virginia Resolved event webpage. More announcements are to be made leading up to the event.
2026’s Virginia Resolved event is being held in partnership with Westmoreland County as well as the Virginia American Revolution 250 Commission (VA250) as one of their signature events for America’s Semiquincentennial.
“Stratford’s and Westmoreland County’s stories share the history not just of the Northern Neck—but of all of Virginia and indeed all of America. Westmoreland County is where our nation began—where our revolutionary ancestors sought to create the more perfect union that we inherited and are all still working toward today,” said Karen Daly, Stratford Hall President. “All of us at Stratford Hall are proud to commemorate the Semiquincentennial of the United States of America and the Lee family’s significant contributions in founding our nation 250 years ago. We are excited to partner with VA250 and Westmoreland County to create a 250th anniversary event for the entire community—and for our nation—to enjoy together.”
