If the crowd’s tone at Buena Vista’s 54th annual Labor Day Fest signals the tune of this election season, then raucous is the 2025 campaign for Virginia’s executive branch.

Cheers and jeers of parading politicians and sign-wielding supporters besieged Virginia’s fourth-smallest city, population 6,500, echoing through downtown that early voting in statewide elections begins this month, on Sept. 19.

A full slate of Republican and Democratic candidates for governor, lieutenant governor and attorney general marched along Magnolia Avenue.
