A second federal agency is now investigating George Mason University over an allegation of racial discrimination. The Department of Justice said Monday it had opened an inquiry into the Fairfax County university to determine if it had provided equal treatment of individuals based on race.
The move comes less than two weeks after the federal Department of Education said it was investigating Mason for alleged discrimination and antisemitism. George Mason is the second Virginia college to be placed under the microscope, following the University of Virginia, whose president, Jim Ryan, stepped down earlier this month after facing pressure from federal officials.
