In an election campaign that has seen fierce attacks and strong feelings on personalities and policies, Virginians are still more inclined to vote for a candidate for president than against one, a new political poll shows.

The new poll from Christopher Newport University‘s Wason Center, like most others in recent weeks, gives Vice President Kamala Harris a significant lead over former President Donald Trump in Virginia — in this case, a difference of 11 percentage points, 52% to 41%, with a margin of error of plus or minus 4.4 percentage points.

The survey, taken from Sept. 28 through Oct. 4, showed a wider lead for Sen. Tim Kaine, D-Va., over GOP challenger Hung Cao than other polls have: The CNU poll reported Kaine with a 20-point lead, 55% to 35%.
