Here are 3 major developments that led to this week’s ballpark groundbreaking

The Richmond Flying Squirrels dubbed this “Squirrels Week: A New Beginning” and scheduled a pair of events to celebrate the start of a ballpark to replace The Diamond, which opened in 1985. On Wednesday at the Bon Secours Training Center, the Double-A franchise will reveal the naming rights partner for the ballpark, expected to be CarMax, and updated renderings. On Friday, the groundbreaking ceremony will take place on North Arthur Ashe Boulevard adjacent to The Diamond, where the new ballpark will be built.
