A push by top Virginia Republicans to ban transgender women from participating in women’s sports — an issue President-elect Donald Trump pressed during his campaign last year — failed its first General Assembly test on Thursday.
The vote came the day after Gov. Glenn Youngkin, Lt. Gov. Winsome Earle-Sears and Attorney General Jason Miyares held a rally calling on the legislature to enact a ban.
