Virginia has a new governor elect.

Democrat Abigail Spanberger of Glen Allen was elected over Republican Winsome Earle-Sears of Richmond.

In the race for lieutenant governor Democrat Ghazala F. Hashmi was declared the winner over John. J. Reid. II.

Democrat Jay John C. Jones will be the next attorney general with his win over Jason S. Miyares.

Locally in District 67 of the Virginia House of Delegates. Republican Hillary Pugh Kent of Warsaw won re-election with 61 percent of the vote.

In 68th District Republican. Keith Hodges was re-elected with 67 percent of the vote.

In Northumberland County, voters rejected a proposed change to the method of selecting the school board members from direct election by the voters to appointment by the governing body by 62 to 37%.

In District 2 for the Member of the Board of Supervisors race, B. Keith Harris defeated the incumbent Richard F. Haynie, willing 61 percent to 38 percent of the vote.
