FREDERICKSBURG – Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) crews will begin mobilizing on Monday, March 23, to install and cover work zone signs for an upcoming safety improvement project at the intersection of Route 360 and Route 647 (Mill Road) in King William County.

Construction for the project will begin the week of March 30. Once construction begins, the work zone signs will be uncovered.

This project will extend the existing left turn lane on Route 360 westbound at Mill Road to provide greater refuge for vehicles slowing down to turn left, and will keep traffic flowing in the through travel lanes on Route 360 westbound.

A concrete island will be added at the intersection crossover to prohibit Route 360 eastbound left turns into Sleepy Hollow Drive, and left turns out of Sleepy Hollow Drive onto Route 360 eastbound. Once the project is complete, drivers on Sleepy Hollow Drive seeking eastbound Route 360 will need to first turn right and then U-turn at the Kennington Parkway intersection.

The project is expected to be complete by August 2026. During construction, motorists can expect daytime single lane closures. The crossover on Route 360 at Mill Road will be closed during construction, and the Route 360 westbound left turn lane at the intersection will also be closed for the duration of the project.

This $1.9 million project is funded through Virginia’s SMART Scale program.

The project contractor is J.R. Caskey.
