(Tappahannock, Va.)—On Friday, May 24, St. Margaret’s School held commencement exercises for its graduating class. This year, 20 percent of the class was awarded full four-year academic scholarships to universities. The class earned over $1.5 million in merit-based scholarships.
Head of School Colley Bell honored each senior with a personalized tribute during the ceremony. The St. Margaret’s School Board of Governors Chair Elizabeth Crowther ‘75 presented honorary degrees to E. Carlton “Buddy” Wilton, Jr., a longtime friend and supporter of St. Margaret’s and the Diocese of Virginia, and Roger Sanders, a former federal judge, Texas lawyer, and the grandfather of a 2023 St. Margaret’s graduate. Rev. Dr. Candine E. Johnson gave “The Charge” at graduation, evoking some inspirational thoughts regarding “grace” the theme of the seniors’ Chapel Talks this year. Rev. Johnson also let the school in the Baccalaureate service.
Head of School Colley Bell shared, “Our 101st Class, the Class of 2024, is a tapestry of diverse souls and resilient spirits who step into the world of higher learning with a profound readiness. They stand tall, prepared for the complexities of our times, their strength woven from all their experiences at St. Margaret’s. These formidable young women carry a grace, an elegance, that will ripple through their communities, setting a standard of honor and high expectations. They are the dream and the hope of the future, ready to shape a world with wisdom and ‘to grow in grace.”
