Almost six weeks after easily winning the Republican nomination for U.S. Senate, Hung Cao has not committed to publicly debating Sen. Tim Kaine, D-Va., the man he’s trying to unseat after two terms.

Kaine announced on June 20 — two days after the GOP primary — that he had accepted invitations to three debates, much to the surprise of Cao’s campaign, which said it had not received invitations to any of them.

Cao’s campaign did not explain but said then that it was “in negotiations with a statewide media company for a much more visible event.”
