Oak Hill, the 19th-century estate of President James Monroe near Leesburg, is now in the hands of a nonprofit organization that is intensifying its push in the next General Assembly session to turn the 1,240-acre property into a new state park in Loudoun County.
The Conservation Fund, based in Arlington County, said Monday that it has completed the purchase of the national historic landmark from its private owners — Tom and Gayle DeLashmutt and other members of their family — to ensure that it won’t be privately developed for housing or commercial uses.
