Virginia Senate Democrats introduced legislation on Thursday seeking to restrict cellphones in K-12 schools that includes exceptions and protections against expulsion for violations.

The announcement came days after Gov. Glenn Youngkin’s education department released its final guidance on cellphone-free education in schools, which says any student with a cellphone should turn it off and store it away, “bell-to-bell” throughout the school day, including the time between classes and at lunch.
