The Virginia Department of Education employs 25 more people than it is authorized to by state law.

A department spokesperson said the agency has enough funding for all of the positions, but doesn’t have the authorization for the number of positions. The VDOE is talking with the Department of Planning and Budget and the General Assembly about increasing the number of employees it is authorized to have.
