A House panel on Wednesday night voted down a near-total abortion ban and another proposed abortion restriction.
House Bill 1364, carried by Del. Tim Griffin, R-Bedford, would have prohibited abortion with the life of the pregnant person as the only exception. The panel rejected it on an 8-0 vote.
Though many Republicans had promised to support abortion restrictions on the campaign trail last year, few have offered proposals in the legislative session, now that Democrats control the House of Delegates as well as the state Senate.
