Virginia’s unemployment compensation system is almost back to normal nearly five years after the COVID-19 pandemic began, but House Speaker Don Scott Jr., D-Portsmouth, is looking ahead to what he fears is another looming crisis for tens of thousands of employees in the state.
Scott asked the head of the Virginia Employment Commission this month about its preparation for a potential surge in unemployment because of promises by President-elect Donald Trump and his allies to move and lay off employees who drive the state’s economy, especially in Northern Virginia and Hampton Roads.
