LANCASTER COUNTY, VA – On Thursday, January 30, 2025, at approximately 8:42 p.m., Virginia State Police responded to a single-vehicle crash on Greentown Road (Route 664), about three-tenths of a mile south of Gaskins Road in Weems, Virginia. The crash involved a 1997 Chevrolet S-10 pickup truck that overturned multiple times, ejecting both of its occupants.

The vehicle was traveling south on Greentown Road when it ran off the left side of the road and overturned. The driver, Irvin Maurice Yerby, 63, of Weems, Virginia, and the passenger, Martha Lynn Veney, 56, of Kilmarnock, Virginia, were both ejected from the vehicle. Both individuals were unrestrained at the time of the crash.

The investigation indicated that alcohol and speed were contributing factors in the crash.

Emergency Medical Services transported both victims to a local hospital, where they were subsequently airlifted to VCU Medical Center in Richmond. Yerby later succumbed to his injuries at the hospital. Veney remains in critical condition.

The investigation is ongoing.
