ASHLAND, Va. – Two of the most feared players in the league have been picked as a hitter and pitcher to watch for the 2023 DIII softball season by FloSports Softball. Senior pitcher/infielder Rilee Baughan (Warsaw, Va./Rappahannock) has been placed on the hitters to watch list and sophomore pitcher Gracie Ellis (New Kent, Va./New Kent) has been named a pitcher to watch this season.
After an impressive junior campaign, Rilee Baughan has been named a hitter to watch this season in Division III. Baughan led the team with 24 extra base hits including 12 doubles and 11 homers. She led the ODAC in homers, was second in RBI with 53, and third with 101 total bases last season. She added a 12-5 record in the circle as well with seven complete games.
The freshman sensation Gracie Ellis has been tabbed as a pitcher to watch this season for Division III. Ellis won ODAC Pitcher of the Year and Rookie of the year, was All-Region VI First Team, All-State First Team, and All-American Third Team for her rookie campaign. On the season, Ellis went 22-6 with a 1.21 ERA, striking out 244 batters. She added a no-hitter against Marymount and a perfect game against Guilford as well. Ellis led the ODAC in wins (22), strikeouts (244), shutouts (7), strikeout to walk ratio (11.62), saves (3), complete games (23), innings pitched (190.1), and strikeouts per seven innings (8.97).
RMC will open the season on March 4 for the Triangle Classic in Raleigh, North Carolina, hosted by William Peace.
