A proposal to keep diamondback terrapins from drowning when trapped in Chesapeake Bay crab pots is sparking angry objections from watermen.
More than 265 and counting are filing objections to a request from conservation groups and scientists that the Virginia Marine Resources Commission require crab pots be fitted with rectangular plastic rings, typically 1¾ to 2 inches high and 12 inches wide, to block terrapins from entering a pot and being trapped with no way out.
