he $28 million wrongful death lawsuit filed by the family of Adam Oakes will move forward, following a Richmond judge’s ruling that defendants must remain in the proceedings.

Most of the 12 former members of the Delta Chi fraternity asked to exit the lawsuit, claiming there were flaws in the Oakes family’s complaint.

Oakes was a 19-year-old freshman at Virginia Commonwealth University when he died of alcohol intoxication in a 2021 hazing incident.
