RICHMOND – Today, June 25, 2025, Virginia State Police welcomed for orientation its largest Basic Session class since the 129th Basic Session in 2018.  Ninety-eight trooper-trainees attended orientation this morning at the Virginia State Police Academy in North Chesterfield, with more expected to join the class during the 28-week process.

The size of the class is a result of Virginia State Police’s new recruitment campaign – Troopers Rise Above (www.vatrooper.com) – including the Pathway to Trooper program, which offers employment opportunities to young adults before they reach the age where they can join a Basic Session (age 21 at graduation).

The 144TH Basic Session will graduate on January 30, 2026.  The 143rd Basic Session will graduate in two months on August 22, 2025.
