RICHMOND – The Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) will be closed Monday, February 19 for George Washington Day, but customers can still take advantage of renewing their registration online. Online transactions like registration renewals save customers time and money this holiday weekend.
When renewing their registration online, customers will automatically save $1 and can save an additional $2 or $3 when renewing for two or three years respectively. You can renew up to six months in advance. Even if your registration is already expired, you can still renew online up to 90 days past the registration’s expiration date. However, a $10 late fee will be applied.
“Save yourself time and money by renewing your registration online,” said DMV Commissioner Gerald Lackey. “Why visit DMV when you can renew from the comfort of your own home? It takes less than five minutes to do!”
Customers can renew their vehicle’s registration by visiting https://www.dmv.virginia.gov/online-services and following a few simple steps:
– Select “Vehicle Registration Renewal” from the list of options.
– Enter your vehicle’s title number and VIN, or log into your myDMV account.
– Answer a few simple questions. – Enter payment information to complete the transaction.
– Print a temporary registration card until your decals arrive in the mail.
