National Work Zone Awareness Week started Monday and runs through this Friday, April 19. It’s an effort to spread awareness of the importance of safety and the potential dangers in work zones for both, workers and drivers. National Work Zone Awareness week first began in 1997. According to the VDOT, Virginia work zones crashes has claimed 13 lives in 2023, which is down from the previous year’s data with 22 deaths in 2022. VDOT reported there were over 4,100 crashes and almost 1,700 injuries last year in work zones.
