A CSX train hauling 200 cars filled with corn derailed Friday in Richmond, sending three cars plunging off the train bridge into the canal along Dock Street in Shockoe Bottom.

In a statement Friday night, CSX said in addition to the three cars in the canal, two other cars derailed on the bridge, as well as two distributed power units, which are locomotives placed between train cars.

“There were no injuries reported, there are no hazmat leaks or spills, and there is no threat to the surrounding community,” said CSX spokesperson Jonathan Stuckey.
