RICHMOND – On October 1, 2024 President Biden declared a Major Disaster in Virginia as a result of Hurricane Helene, which included the Public Assistance (PA) is approved for the counties of Bedford, Bland, Buchanan, Carroll, Craig, Dickenson, Giles, Grayson, Montgomery, Pittsylvania, Pulaski, Russell, Scott, Smyth, Tazewell, Washington, Wise, and Wythe counties and the independent cities of Bristol, Covington, Danville, Galax, Norton, and Radford.  Local governments, special government districts, state agencies, non-profit organizations, and other public entities located in these counties that had Hurricane Helene related damages or expenditures are encouraged to submit your Request for Public Assistance (RPA) in the FEMA Grants Portal – https://grantee.fema.gov.  Attached are step by step instructions to assist with submitting your Request for Public Assistance (RPA). The RPA is the first step in the PA process.  Applicant Briefings will be scheduled in the coming weeks, where the PA process, requirements, and timelines will be provided.  Additional cities and counties are anticipated to be included in this disaster, and we will announce as that happens.
