On the eve of the college basketball season, Virginia men’s basketball coach Tony Bennett is retiring, effective immediately, the school announced on Thursday.

UVa did not provide a reason for Bennett’s decision to step away from coaching less than three weeks before the Cavaliers’ season opener against Campbell on Nov. 6. The decision is not related to Bennett’s health, according to multiple reports.

Bennett will hold a press conference at 11 a.m. Friday at John Paul Jones Arena in Charlottesville to discuss his decision.
