Stratford, VA — It was another great year for the annual Oyster Roast and Auction at Stratford Hall, the historic home of the Lee family in Virginia. More than 150 people helped raise $100,000 on Sunday, April 27, to fuel Stratford Hall’s mission.
The fundraiser was hosted by the Northern Neck Friends of Stratford and Auction Committee, co-chaired by Sue Farmar and Linda Gilchrist. This year’s event included local Northern Neck oysters, cocktails, a springtime luncheon catered by Angelo’s Restaurant, and a silent and live auction to raise funds for Stratford Hall’s educational programs, preservation of the Great House and historic outbuildings, and interpretation of 1,900 acres along the Potomac River that were home to the Lees.
“The Northern Neck Friends of Stratford and Auction Committee sincerely thank the sponsors, donors, Directors, and all who contributed, making for a successful event,” shared Linda Gilchrist. “We are truly grateful for the support of all who made this event so special,” added Sue Farmar. She continued by sharing “Cheers to 2026 as we will be celebrating America’s 250th anniversary at Stratford Hall!”
Included in the $100,000 raised was more than $21,000 in gifts through the “Raise the Paddle” to fund their education program, supporting free and immersive school field trips for students. “As the home of two signers of the Declaration of Independence and other revolutionaries, we are uniquely positioned to offer students meaningful experiences to help discover America’s history in new and exciting ways as we prepare for the Semiquincentennial in 2026,” shared President Karen L. Daly. “Many thanks to our committee members, sponsors, and guests who contributed to the success of this year’s event and, in turn, are helping to provide students and visitors with an inspiring, immersive experience of life in America’s formative years at Stratford Hall.”
Sponsors and in-kind supporters of this year’s event included an Anonymous sponsor, Karin Andrews with Shaheen, Ruth, Martin and Fonville Real Estate, Bloomia, Clements Tent Rentals, Mrs. Robert Sibley Cooper, Jr., H. Douglas Cunningham and Lee Carrigan, Roberta Garnett, Ingleside Vineyards, Ginny and Jack Ritter, Missy and Matson Roberts, Patrick Stone State Farm, Richard H.
