Beginning July 1, Virginia will have a new backseat seatbelt law requiring all vehicle occupants to wear a seatbelt, according to a written statement.

According to the most recent statewide seat belt survey in 2024, 19% of Virginians were still not wearing a seat belt while driving.

Last year, 50% of people killed in traffic crashes were unrestrained in a vehicle that had safety restraints.
