Earlier this morning, June 23, 2025, the Virginia State Police responded to a call by the Gloucester Sheriff’s Office(GSO) to assist in arresting a fleeing suspect. Initially, the GSO had responded to a domestic violence call at a local residence where a male suspect, later identified as 36 year old David L. Valentine, resisted arrest and assault one of the deputies attempting to take him into custody. Valentine then fled the residence in a 2018 Nissan Rogue.
Preliminary investigation indicates that after Valentines’ assault, a pursuit was initiated onto Route 17. During the pursuit, State police attempted several times to stop the vehicle, but Valentine refused to stop, making several attempts to strike the Troopers vehicles. The pursuit concluded when Valentine ran a red light at the intersection of Main Street and Route 17 striking a 2021 GMC Sierra . After crashing the vehicle, Valentine was successfully arrested without incident. No troopers were injured during the pursuit or arrest.
The operator of the GMC, Stephan A. Crowder, along with Valentine, were both taken to Riverside Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
Daniel L. Valentine is charged with felony elude, assault and battery (2x), assault on a law enforcement officer, driving while revoked DUI related, driving with interlock, and various traffic infractions stemming from the pursuit.
