irginia Republicans are cautiously optimistic about a Tuesday ruling from the Supreme Court of Virginia that allows a lower court’s ruling blocking the certification of last week’s redistricting election to stand.

The day after the election, a Tazewell County judge ruled the constitutional amendment was invalid and blocked election officials from certifying the results of the referendum. The Virginia Attorney General’s Office quickly appealed the Tazewell County judge’s ruling to the Supreme Court of Virginia, but the court on Tuesday declined to pause the Tazewell judge’s ruling.
