WARSAW, Va.- July 25, 2025. The Rappahannock Wildlife Refuge Friends (RWR Friends) is proud to announce that it has been selected as the Friends Group of the Year by the National Wildlife Refuge Association (NWRA). This prestigious recognition highlights the organization’s outstanding efforts in supporting wildlife conservation, enhancing community engagement, and promoting the preservation of natural habitats at the Rappahannock River Valley National Wildlife Refuge (Refuge).
The Friends Group of the Year award is given annually to a refuge friends group that exemplifies exceptional leadership and community involvement, demonstrating a deep commitment to the mission of the National Wildlife Refuge System. RWR Friends has significantly contributed to the health of the Refuge and surrounding ecosystems, while providing educational opportunities and building partnerships that inspire future conservation leaders.

The award will be officially presented on October 7th at an event on the Refuge, where RWR Friends will be celebrated for its achievements and contributions to the Refuge and the National Wildlife Refuge System.
