PORTSMOUTH — Virginia’s Democratic nominee for governor, Abigail Spanberger, rolled out her education plan on Friday. While light on specifics, it aims for increases in K-12 school funding, modernizing the state’s standardized tests and addressing the teacher shortage.

Spanberger’s education plan acknowledges that Virginia has fallen behind in academic performance compared with other states.

Virginia ranks 51st in the U.S. — behind all other states and Washington, D.C. — in math recovery from 2019 to 2024.
