Electric bills could rise faster than Dominion Energy thought as the company’s latest update to its long-term plan sets a new emphasis on cutting imports of electricity.

Dominion is thinking it needs to build more natural gas plants and solar plants in the near term as the cost of wheeling in power from other states soars.

Demand for power, largely driven by the data center boom, means imports of electricity will have to rise if the state is to avoid blackouts and brownouts, even as the cost of this power balloons.
