Packaged meat giant Smithfield Foods bought Nathan’s Famous in an all-cash $450 million deal, the companies announced Wednesday. Nathan’s opened as a 5-cent hot dog stand in Coney Island more than a century ago.

Smithfield, the world’s largest pork producer, was bought by China’s WH Group in 2013. The company is based in Smithfield, Va.
