Lawmakers in both chambers of the General Assembly have passed a bill to reimagine college governing boards and limit their political influence.
On Tuesday, Lt. Gov. Ghazala Hashmi, D-Chesterfield, cast a tiebreaking vote to approve a rewritten version of House Bill 1385, which would change how the legislature confirms board members and their duties once they begin to serve. The House already approved a previous version of the bill by a vote of 62-35.
