Amazon plans to build a distribution facility exceeding 1 million square feet in New Kent County, adding another major logistics operation to the long-developing New Kent City Center industrial corridor at the Exit 211 interchange.

The company announced Wednesday that it intends to construct the facility on property purchased from developer Matan Companies. The building will be located adjacent to AutoZone’s distribution center and will serve other Amazon fulfillment centers throughout the company’s logistics network.

The project sits within a broader, long-planned industrial buildout along Interstate 64 that has been assembling large tracts of land for logistics development over several years.
