Rob Wittman’s $1,288,608 funding request for the Essex County Joint Maintenance Facility is included in the Fiscal Year 2027 Agriculture, Rural Development, Food and Drug Administration, and Related Agencies Act. This measure has passed the House and awaits passage in the Senate.
Maintaining the vehicles used by our first responders, school bus drivers, and county employees is a critical function that enables them to do their jobs and serve their communities. I am proud to have secured this funding for Essex County’s joint maintenance facility project to ensure county operations can continue and residents receive the care and service they deserve. I look forward to seeing this measure pass the Senate and head to the President’s desk.
The funding would be used to construct a Joint Maintenance Facility (JMF) to replace Essex County’s outdated 1940s-era fleet maintenance building and to install a short access road to improve connectivity to nearby thoroughfares. These funds would help modernize and centralize critical fleet operations for public schools, emergency services, law enforcement, and county operations—improving efficiency, safety, and reliability across essential government services. The current undersized and deteriorating facility no longer meets operational or safety standards, creating delays and maintenance challenges that can hinder emergency response and service delivery. Federal investment would enhance response times, reduce long-term maintenance costs, and ensure the County can effectively support essential public services for its residents.
Community Project Funding (CPF) allows Members of Congress to bring tax dollars back home for district-specific priorities. Members have firsthand knowledge of their district’s needs and can prioritize federal funding for the most critical local projects. For me, these projects address clear and present needs in communities across Virginia and enjoy broad community support. The federal dollars designated for CPF projects exist within existing budget limits. Community Project Funding gives me the ability to empower Virginians by ensuring they have a critical voice in directing their federal tax dollars back into VA-01 communities.
