Amazon has withdrawn a controversial bid for a permit to draw groundwater for a proposed data center campus in King George County.
That request to the state Department of Environmental Quality had stirred strong opposition from the county’s water utility and the state senator representing the area, since groundwater in nearby areas of the aquifer was already severely depleted.
