On Tuesday, security at Richmond International Airport picked up another firearm — a loaded handgun with a bullet in the chamber.
The seizure is the 30th of its kind this year. It came from a Williamsburg man and was found in the passenger’s carry-on items, according to a release from the Transportation Security Administration. The gun was spotted by the airport’s X-ray unit, the release said.
Under Virginia law, it’s illegal to bring a weapon into an airport.
Penalties include jail time and thousands of dollars in fines.
