The Virginia Supreme Court has yet to rule on the appeals of two lower court decisions to block a constitutional amendment that voters approved more than two weeks ago, but now it has another political redistricting appeal to consider, with less than three weeks before a state deadline for candidates to declare in party primaries for congressional seats that remain undefined.

The Republican National Committee and Virginia’s five Republican congressional representatives want the Supreme Court to approve a preliminary injunction that would block the use of new congressional maps that state Democrats in the General Assembly approved this year as part of a revised budget for the current fiscal year.
