FREDERICKSBURG, Va. – Both lanes of Route 2 have reopened to traffic at the bridge over Bowies Pond in Caroline County.
A maintenance project to address recurring cracking in the bridge’s travel surface is substantially complete. Crews strengthened the connections between the bridge beams to extend the life of the structure and installed a new concrete travel surface.
Route 2 was reduced to a single lane at the bridge in January 2024, when construction began. The temporary traffic signal directing one-way, alternating traffic in the work zone has been removed.
An average of 6,000 vehicles a day travel Route 2 in the project work zone.
