King and Queen County Motorists will be glad to know that they will not be facing a 10 mile detour beginning next Monday.
VDOT says the bridge on Route 621, Bruington Road, in King and Queen County over Dogwood Fork will open to traffic on Monday, Dec. 18 after a bridge maintenance project. The approximate 10-mile detour will be lifted after being installed on Nov. 1 to allow crews to address bridge scour. Crews will then move to King William County to close Route 604, Herring Creek Road, in the Aylett area to complete similar work to the bridge over Herring Creek. Herring Creek Road will close to through traffic between Route 628, Dorrell Road, and Route 600, West River Road, for approximately four months also on Monday, Dec. 18. The signed detour route is approximately 10-miles. Weather permitting, Herring Creek Road is expected to reopen to traffic by March 1, 2024.
