Haynesville Correctional Unit #17, known locally as camp 17, has been in operation since 1959. This week, staff and inmates were temporarily reassigned.
According to a Press Release from Kyle Gibson, Director of Communications with the Virginia Department of Corrections, the Haynesville Correctional Unit #17 is currently undergoing facility improvement projects. Inmates have been temporarily relocated to other facilities within department’s Eastern region.
Also this week staff members have been temporarily reassigned to Haynesville Correction Center to address staffing vacancies until these projects are complete.
Additionally, the inmates at Haynesville Correctional #17 are assisting with a project at another correctional facility.
These employees will return to Unit 17 as projects are complete and staffing levels return to optimal operational standards.
